Baby Boy Update: 28 weeks

How big is baby:  28 weeks | the size of an eggplant ~2.25lbs

Verse that I am clinging to: God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.
So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?
Romans 8:29-31 The Message

How I’m feeling: Overall, pretty good. This week has been marked by lots of sleepies and hunger.

Symptoms: Swollen fingers (wedding rings no longer fit) and feet. Eczema comes and goes as does heartburn.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: I am pretty hungry constantly, and am trying to be cognizant of what I am eating. Quick snack usually aren't the healthiest, and this week I have had a constant hankering for sweet things like milkshakes and Dr. Pepper. We also had Mellow Mushroom for dinner the other night and I've been thinking pretty constantly about how delicious a calzone would be.

Weight gain/loss:  Around ~145 according to the scale at home. That puts me at having gained about 15 pounds from conception weight, apparently from here out I will gain about a pound a week. Saw some ladies jogging with strollers this morning and felt so sad for them, realized that will probably be me a year from now.

Sleep: So tired, all the time. I sleep really good at night, just getting up for the occasional potty visit. I've been needing a "power nap" usually in the evenings to feel rested enough to finish my work duties for the evening. I feel like my fatigue at this point is more just physically being tired from carrying/maneuvering my new extra weight.

Exercise: We went for a walk the other night with the dogs. It is so much nicer to walk now that it is cooler, although my swelling fingers and feet make walking not super comfortable. By the time we get home I have hot dog fingers and my feet are throbbing in my shoesies. I'd really like to work yoga back in but the place I want to go only meets on Saturdays and we've been busy every single Saturday for the past 2 months. Wondering if there are benefits to yoga even if it will only really be for the last two months of my pregnancy.

Movement: Little dude is growing bigger and stronger! He was kicking me the other day in my side like all the way around to the right near my back! I had no idea he could reach that far. He kicks pretty regularly, although there doesn't seem to be a time where he's more active than others. Sometimes I feel him when I'm up moving around and other times it is when I'm sitting. No real patterns so far. The only consistency is that he goes WILD when I am eating (especially if I am drinking something sugary, oh say, a Dr. Pepper). I love his little kicks and wiggles and flips, although the other day I feel like his foot got caught somewhere important because I had a very weird and painful bulge on my left side. Oh man.

Best moment of the week: Our small group surprised us with a baby shower! They are so sweet. I am so grateful that we found this group two years ago, definitely has been a game changer for me in my adult life in terms of faith. Everyone in our group is just so real. I love the relationships we've built there and the friends we have made. One of our leaders asked Marshall to share the 'long version' of 'his story' and it was so incredible to hear Marshall talk about his life before we met. While he was talking I would think about what I was doing at that same period and how God was really preparing us individually to meet each other. Our God is so good, there is no way I could ever un-see all the ways God has kept his hand on us, guiding through this world and life.

What I’m loving: Third trimester! Baby's room is coming together, we've settled on a name and now we are in the "home stretch". 12 weeks still feels far away, but I guess he could come earlier than that and things are starting to feel a little more real!

What I’m looking forward to: We have another baby shower next weekend with my friends from college/Raleigh that my best girls are throwing for me. I cannot express just how LOVED we are feeling these days. Excited for the shower and SO GRATEFUL for the wonderful friends God has given us!
