Baby Boy update: 39 weeks

How big is baby: 39 weeks | the size of a small watermelon

Verse that I am clinging to:

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His government and its peace will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.
The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
Isaiah 9:6-7

How I'm feeling: Like a very tired and very pregnant time bomb.

Progress: 2cm, 100% effaced and waiting.

Symptoms: What I now know to be "pre-labor". This label made me kind of angry until I found out that some people call it "false labor" which made me really angry. Pre it is. I started having contractions on Christmas eve around lunchtime. Throughout the day they progressed to being 4 minutes apart, so around 1am so I got up, started getting ready to head to the hospital and voila ten minutes of silence. Nothing. They started back up and  proceeded to be 8 minutes apart for the rest of the night. Christmas day I was exhausted so we stayed home and contracted every six minutes. All day long. Things started to wane a bit and went back to 8-10 minutes apart so I went to bed and woke up at 1am with what felt like even stronger contractions back at 6 minutes apart. I called the doctor and she said I could come in or wait it out, so since it had almost been 2 whole days of contractions we went. The doctor was super encouraging but I was still 1cm so they sent me back home to wait some more. I happened to have an appointment at 8:30 the day after Christmas so we went and I had progressed to 2cm since 3am, and after my appointment had a ton of contractions back to back... surely this was it! Nope. By that night they had tapered off to every 20 minutes and by the time I went to bed they were at every hour (I woke up at 12:48, 1:48, 2:48, 3:48....etc.).Which brings me to the present where contractions I think are happening every 30 minutes or so and are so mild I don't even really have to breathe consciously to make it out alive (this is not the case for those contractions that were 6 minutes apart... yowza). On one hand, feeling super GRATEFUL to get a taste of labor with a chance to rest and sleep before baby-yielding labor begins. On the other hand, I had no idea that this pre-labor nonsense was even a thing, could hurt that bad and be so completely exhausting. Also, I without a doubt will be asking for an epidural within minutes of getting to the hospital when the time is for real. Contractions are no joke.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Haven't really had much of an appetite the past couple of days. When hungry I want comfort food like pancakes. That could also be due to watching a lot of Gilmore Girls and all they do is eat pancakes at Luke's.

Weight gain/loss: They weighed me yesterday but honestly I was like half asleep and don't remember or really care at this point.

Sleep: Last night slept in hour increments, days before that I slept in 6-10 minute increments with getting up to "Do I have to pee? Oh no, that's a contraction" and wander around my room sleep confused for a few minutes before laying back down.

Exercise: I have walked more this week than I have in the preceding 9 months.

Movement: He is such a good baby. Just hanging out upside down, waiting to be born. I feel his little arms and legs moving in between contractions. Love him.

Best moment of the week: Yesterday Marshall's family brought Christmas to us since I wasn't feeling good on Christmas day. We ate lunch and opened presents and went on a long walk with the dogs. It was sweet.

What I’m loving: That time is running out and one way or another soon I'll have a baby.

What I’m looking forward to: Baby snuggles.
